HEADLINER

Kathy Kallick Band

The Kathy Kallick Band is, indeed, based along the west coast, from the San Francisco Bay Area to Anchorage, but their powerful mixture of original and classic music, mirroring their distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary sensibilities, has great appeal everywhere.

Kathy Kallick’s exceptional career includes winning a Grammy and two IBMA Awards, receiving a Lifetime Membership from the California Bluegrass Association, co-founding the internationally-acclaimed Good Ol’ Persons, and collaborating with the country’s top acoustic musicians – including her mighty band: Annie Staninec (fiddle), Greg Booth (dobro, banjo), Tom Bekeny (mandolin), and Cary Black (acoustic bass), all of whom are also wonderful singers.

“You’ll marvel at the individual virtuosity, group cohesiveness, and beautifully-sung Kallick originals that express both timely pessimism and tireless hope.”
– Derk Richardson, Oakland

Their shows and recordings include powerful and compelling Kathy compositions; dazzling and inventive interpretations of lesser-known instrumentals led by Annie, Greg, and Tom; distinctive covers of a wide range of songs with sources ranging from the Carter Family and Coon Creek Girls to Bill Monroe and Mac Martin to Rose Maddox and Richard Thompson; classics from the Good Ol’ Persons and earlier KKB releases; and plenty of new material.

Led by one of the music’s extraordinary composers and vocalists, the Kathy Kallick Band has nearly as much fun as the audience when performing, and their presentation —ranging from electrifying to humorous to bittersweet to soulful —is always inclusive and satisfying. And they’re truly a band, listening to and sparked by each other, contributing to the songs and the sound as a whole.

“Classic West Coast bluegrass, filled to the brim with driving rhythm, timeless bluegrass instrumental stylings, and a sense of freedom and exploration; Kallick’s deeply soulful voice and magnificent delivery shows she’s one of the greatest bluegrass vocalists of her generation or any other.”
– David J. McCarty, Bluegrass Unlimited

“Kathy Kallick makes bluegrass records that at their best — and decades into it she makes nothing less — are exciting propositions. She’s as gripping a vocalist as anybody on the scene, she has a superior band, and she writes and chooses superb material. If you ask for more than that, may the universe forgive you.”
– Jerome Clark, Rambles

OPENING ACT

Hannah Jane Kile

Hannah Jane Kile is radiantly fluent in the universal language of song, and she has the gift of making seriously beautiful music with effortless grace. Her performances are always artistically surprising and deeply moving. She finds treasure in even the most daunting of life’s experiences. Her songs and her voice, soulful and haunting, are magic, and she is fearless in sharing the most complex of emotions with her listeners.

Performing with an openhearted sense of compassion and wonder, her voice soaring from an earthy blues swagger to an ethereal heart rending whisper, like a lullaby in a storm, she packs an emotional wallop. Eloquent, warm and wise in an innocent way, she has a comprehensive artistic vision, a vision that is as inspiring as it is engaging.

Hannah writes vivid music that is all the richer for the heartfelt intimacy of her voice. Hers is a sincere craft, created with a jeweler’s attention to design. Her songs are saturated with a charm and melodic color that can be as evocative as Appalachian ballads or as rousing as Broadway show tunes, and they shine with pure emotional truth.
